 AMERICAN CATHOLIC CORRECTIONAL CHAPLAINS ASSOCIATION

CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I: NAME

This organization shall be known as the American Catholic Correctional Chaplains Association (hereafter ACCCA).

 ARTICLE II:  AFFILIATIONS

The ACCCA is directly affiliated with the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops (hereafter USCCB) and the International Catholic Commission of Prison Pastoral Care (ICCPPC).  The ACCCA is an association under the American Correctional Chaplains Association (hereafter ACCA).  The ACCA is directly affiliated with the American Correctional Association (hereafter ACA).

 ARTICLE III: PURPOSE

The purposes of the ACCCA shall be:

A.                 To present a unified implementation of Catholic tradition and teachings in the correctional and rehabilitative efforts of those committed to the chaplains’ care, under the direction of the Episcopal Advisor of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

B.                 To actively relate with the ACCA, the USCCB and the ICCPPC as a voice in the field of corrections and criminal justice.

C.                 To foster a Catholic approach to the issues of the correctional field in accord with the principles of Restorative Justice as outlined in Sacred Scripture, Catholic Social teaching and philosophy, and the various directives of the Magisterium of the Church.

D.                 To assist the recruitment of qualified Catholic personnel for the correctional ministry and to serve as a resource for them through training and the exchange of ideas and experience.

E.                  To actively promote the Code of Ethics as adapted by the ACCCA.

 ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Member

Any person/organization interested or actively engaged in the field of correctional ministry may become a member of the ACCCA by submitting her/his name, together with the requisite membership fee to the Treasurer of the ACCCA.

Section 2.  Certification

Certification is available to members who meet the ACCCA standards and procedures as accredited by the USCCB Commission of Certification and Accreditation.

 ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS

 Section 1 Officers

The officers of the ACCCA shall be the President,   Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Section 2.  Eligibility

Any Individual member of the ACCCA shall be eligible for any office.

 Section 3Election and Appointment of Officers

The President and Vice President are elected by the membership.
The Treasurer and the Secretary, are appointed by the president
.

 Section 4. Terms of Office

The President and Vice-President shall serve a term of two years and may be re-elected to a second consecutive term.

 ARTICLE V:  AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION

1.   A written copy of any proposed amendment(s) shall be presented to the Secretary prior to the next general meeting.

2.   At the next general meeting with the approval of the officers the proposed amendment(s) will be presented to the general membership for discussion, debate and recommendations.

3. A vote will be taken to formally submit the amendment(s) to the general membership. A simple majority is needed to move the amendment forward.

4. A copy of the amendment(s), with a brief summary of the discussion and debate, shall be transmitted by the Secretary to all members and the voting shall be by a mailed ballot.

5. A two-thirds affirmative vote of the returned ballots shall be required to amend.
